On The Relationship Between EFL Teachers' Self-Regulation and Their Professional Development

Teachers are considered to play a significant role in the achievement of educational goals. In this regard, the concept of teachers' professional development, emerged over the last decades, is believed to be a vital ingredient in attaining such goals. The present study aimed to explore the relationship between EFL teachers' self-regulation and their professional development. The participants of this study included 100 EFL teachers of high schools, selected based on simple random sampling. The data were gathered through Teacher Professional Development questionnaire and O'Neil and Herl's (1998) Self-Regulation Trait Questionnaire. Correlation analysis revealed that there was a significant relationship between teachers' self-regulation and their professional development. In addition, subsequent multiple regression analysis indicated that among the subscales of self-regulation, self-monitoring and self-efficacy accounted for a significant proportion of the variance observed in teachers' professional development. it can be concluded that improving teachers' self-regulation can lead to their professional development in educational settings.
