Textbook Evaluation of “Prospect 3” An Evaluation of the Iranian Junior High School English textbook

چکیده مقاله
Textbook evaluation is considered as one of the avenues to the improvement of textbooks by providing ample detailed information. This study aimed to carry out an investigation on Prospect 3, the English textbook of the Iranian Junior high schools. Razmjoo’s (2010) checklist was used as the instrument which is specifically designed for the expanding circle countries including Iran. Each section of the book was investigated according the various sections of the checklist and frequency counts were conducted subsequently in order to pinpoint the strongest and the weakest elements covered in the book. The findings revealed that the strongest points of the book were the teachers’ manual, language skills, tasks, activities and exercises. The weakest points, on the other hand, were the general considerations and critical discourse analysis (CDA) features. The implications of this study can benefit teachers in the way they present the materials, as well as textbook developers in improving the book and designing other similar textbooks.
