چکیده مقاله |
This study revolves around the relationship between motivation and speaking strategy use and also investigates the relationship between motivation factors and speaking strategy application of higher education EFL learners in an Iranian EFL context. In this survey research, a total of 72 freshman and sophomore students (24 males and 48 females) majoring in English Language and Literature at Hakim Sabzevari University were selected as participants. To gauge the learners’ degree of motivation and speaking strategy use, two questionnaires respectively conducted by Taguchi et al. (2015) and Razmjoo & Ghasemi Ardekani (2011) were administered. Partial correlation and Pearson correlation were utilized to analyze the data of this study using SPSS. The results reported by partial correlation showed that there was no significant relationship between motivation and speaking strategy after controlling for covariate gender (r = 0.040). Moreover, the findings of Pearson correlation revealed that all the motivation factors showed positive relationships with speaking strategy factors except for one motivation factor (family influence). Besides, amongst seven motivation factors, ideal L2 self was the one that showed strong positive correlations with body language and substitution (r=.349, p<.01), memorization and summary (r=.288, p<.05), and educational aid method (.332, p<.01) which are three factors of speaking strategy. These findings are discussed and pedagogical implications are offered. |
