A Qualitative Study to Explore Iranian EFL Instructors’ Techniques and Strategies in Teaching Idiomatic Expressions

Abstract
Numerous research projects have been carried out to investigate the importance of idiomatic expressions in foreign language learning and how they should be taught. However, only a few have given voice to teachers’ perspectives on teaching idioms. In light of this, the current study aims to investigate the perspectives of ten Iranian EFL instructors on the use of relevant practices and methodologies in teaching idioms to language learners. The participants will be selected using purposive sampling, and their perceptions will be explored through qualitative interviews, which will then be analyzed by the researcher using grounded theory principles and procedures. The interview questions will be finalized after receiving feedbacks from experts in applied linguistics. Needless to say, uncovering techniques and strategies that teachers use in teaching different parts of language has clear implications for the stakeholders involved, such as language instructors, language learners, syllabus designers, material developers, as well as course designers.
